Our projects serve as hands on experience, molding our members into the Engineers and Scientists of the future. The ups and downs of project development and execution give our members knowledge that they cannot get from class alone. We are an interdisciplinary organization accepting any majors, so our projects involve not only Engineering majors such as Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical and Engineering Technology, but also Chemistry, Law, Political Science and Business.

Here are brief summaries of the SEDS at UCF Projects:

Project: Daedalus | Sub-Orbital Hybrid Rocket Program
Project: Daedalus is an attempt to become the first ever independent student group to launch a sub-orbital sounding rocket. We have undertaken this endeavor to increase knowledge about rocketry, increase advocacy about space exploration, and provide a feasible reusable launch vehicle for scsientific projects and research in the long run. Our design is a hybrid single stage booster-dart launch vehicle with onboard video, telemtry, and recovery systems. To learn more, visit www.ProjectDaedalus.com for details concerning teams, designs, and sponsorship packages.

Zero-Gravity Research Experiments
Through a special project sponsored by Space Florida, we were able to build and fly our own research experiment ona zero-gravity flight by the Zero-G Corporation. Last year, three of our members had the opportunity to fly on one oof the parabolic flights for free, which normally cost around $4,000/person. We are currently rediesigninig our project and hope to fly another experiment soon.

Mini-Hybrid Rocket Project
In order to give our members more experience in the design, simulation, and flight of smaller-scale rockets, we launch our own G and H-motor mini-hybrid rockets monthly at the NEFAR rocket launches. In the past, we have participated and ahd the bestperforming rockets in the Space Florida Grant Hybrid Rocket Competition, beating out schools such as Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the Florida Institute of Technology.

Project MAARV
The Martian Automated Aerial Reconnaissance Vehicle Project is an effort to build a UAV with the purpose of navigating in the Martian Atmosphere. The UAV would be designed to be pre-pogrammed to complete various tasks and possibly entered into a national UAV design competition.
